TexTend Help
This page covers the basic TexTend workflow and its most commonly used features. To open the app, usethe TexTend app.
1. What TexTend can do
- Normalize notation such as width, kana, punctuation, and mixed alphanumeric styles
- Clean up line breaks, blank lines, and duplicate lines
- Convert between CSV, TSV, PSV, and spaced text
- Apply writing rules with tab-separated replacement tables
- Export and reuse settings across projects
2. Basic workflow
- Paste text into the input area.
- Open the conversion settings from the button on the right.
- Turn the conversion options you need on or off.
- Run the conversion and review the result.
- Copy the result into your CMS, spreadsheet, or other destination.
3. Commonly used features
Character conversion
Choose conversion modes separately for hiragana, katakana, letters, numbers, spaces, punctuation, brackets, symbols, and line breaks. Mixed notation can be cleaned up in one pass.
Delimiter conversion
Convert text to CSV, TSV, PSV, spaces, semicolons, or colons by choosing the delimiter you need. This makes it easier to match the format expected by the next tool.
Replacement tables
Write each rule as `before<TAB>after`. Lines starting with `#` are treated as comments. Turn on the replacement-table option to apply the rules during conversion.
Cleanup options
Remove HTML/XML tags, trim leading and trailing whitespace, delete blank or duplicate lines, remove trailing line breaks, or add full-width spaces at line starts. These options are useful before publishing or importing text elsewhere.
Behavior and settings
TexTend also includes change highlighting, character and byte counts, auto-conversion, shortcuts, theme switching, and setting export/import/reset. Exported JSON includes replacement tables as well.
4. Using TexTend with a team
- Export and share settings so everyone can use the same formatting rules.
- Keep separate setting files for each project to avoid applying the wrong rules.
- Keep before/after examples for tricky cases so the rules are easier to review later.
5. How data is handled
- All conversion runs in the browser.
- Input text is not sent to external services.
- Settings are stored locally.
See the product-page FAQ about external data transmission for more details.
6. Troubleshooting
The result is not what I expected
Multiple conversion options may be active at once. Enable them one at a time and compare the result.
Replacement rules are not applied
Make sure each rule is tab-separated. Space-separated text may not be parsed as intended.
Columns break when pasting into Excel
Choose the delimiter expected by the destination, such as CSV or TSV.
The output changes while I type
Auto-conversion may be enabled. Turn it off if you want to run conversions manually.
Shortcuts do not work
Check that shortcuts are enabled. Some browser or OS settings may block them. You can also run a conversion with `Ctrl+Enter` from the input area.
